The stars flocked out in their finery (or not) for the BET Awards (established by the Black Entertainment Television network to celebrate African Americans and other minorities in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment over the past year) for a night rich in talent and sassitude.

Alicia Keys shone through as one of the star performers with a zinging set including singing with three 1990s all-girl groups: Weak with SWV, Hold On with En Vogue and Waterfalls with surviving TLC members Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas.
