There’s a rising glam buzz about next month’s Amsterdam International Fashion Week (AIFW).
Kicking off 19 to 28 July 08, the event promises to be more than just the catwalk extravaganza.
According to the official side, it says ‘Alongside our catwalk show schedule our programme includes fashion events, lectures, exhibitions, retail initiatives and parties. As well as a showcase for Dutch fashion, AIFW provides a stage for the growing New Luxury segment, that so far was stuck between existing mainstream trade events and traditional couture weeks.

According to the designer, Italian cosmetic surgeon Professor Marco Gasparotti, the ‘micro massage’ action of the layers increases blood circulation and helps to break down fatty deposits and therefore smoothes out cellulite.
By assisting the body’s lymphatic drainage process the pants also help to eliminate toxins from the body.

Fashionable-date-for-your-diary alert! Little Black Dress at FT Museum, from 20 June to 25 August 2008
The Little Black Dress exhibition opens at the Fashion & Textile Museum, London SE1.
The show features dresses chosen by top designers, including a show-stopping gown by Julien McDonald worn by Victoria Beckham in ‘That Extra Half Inch’. Other highlights include designs by John Galliano, Amanda Wakeley, Giles Deacon, Zandra Rhodes and Betty Jackson.

The Gala Awards for Graduate Fashion Week was a creative, on-trend event, as one would expect.
Best BA graduate design students schmoozed with the rest of the UK talent chuffed to bits that their collections were showcased and applauded on the catwalk.
Host Caryn Franklin kept fashion watchers entertained throughout the evening while style stars, including Claudia Schiffer (see left), Agyness Deyn and Julian MacDonald swelled the numbers.
Worthy winners were Ria Thomas, representing Nottingham Trent University, who won the Pringle of Scotland Visionary Knitwear Award.
Stand-out star of the evening, Jessica Au’s (Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication) inspired menswear bagged her the River Island Gold Award – and £20,000 prize money. And the Zandra Rhodes Catwalk Textiles Award.

The catwalk was buzzing with eco chic at the Fashion and Textile Museum, London, this week.
Ethic 2008 competition was held to find great ‘green’ designer talent from fashion courses across the UK.
The young contenders had to produce their creation for less than £100 and The Urbanites came up trumps – the talented team from Hackney Community College waltzed off with the coveted award.

Armour, its design and exaggerated shapes was the fashion rocket fuel behind Mana Fatourechy’s imagination and inspiration for her superb collection showcased at Graduate Fashion Week, Earls Court, on Sunday night.
Mana, representing Winchester School Of Art, is still buzzing from the whole experience and her contribution to the catwalk show. ‘It was absolutely amazing – just wonderful seeing all our work up on the catwalk. The show went quite smoothly and, apart from a few minor glitches, it was fine!’

Caroline Roughley opened the show for the University of Westminster with stand-out designs in her circus-inspired work.

The standards set by the students has been incredibly high and Somerset College of Art & Technology, the University of Northampton and Winchester School of Art turned out impressive good looks.
