You could spend a little or a lot but it really didn’t matter. Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot was a surprisingly well-dressed affair where high-street looks swished alongside high-end designer labels.
Apparently, Topshop and Marks & Spencer were the most popular labels and the colour trend was black, white and cream, with the Queen trailblazing the look in cream coat and matching cream hat designed by Rachel Trevor-Morgan.
Trend verdict: black, white and a generous dash of cream with fire-engine red accessories.

You need to stand out from the crowd at red-carpet events. And when you’re host for the night and all stars’ eyes are one you, the look needs to be, um, different.

According to fashion writer Susan Banks Sr., ‘You may not be aware of it, but when someone looks at you, the first thing about your outfit that this someone would be likely to notice is your handbag.
Depending on what kind of handbag you are carrying, you may be drawing attention to the curves of your body that you may prefer to de-emphasize.’
Here’s a quick run-down on her girl’s guide to handbags…
1 Never ever use a small handbag if you have a plus size figure.
2 If your hips are wide and heavy, go for a bag with a shoulder strap that will allow the handbag to hang just above your hips. In this way, anyone who looks at you will have his or her eyes drawn to your upper body.
3 If your figure is top-heavy, you need a handbag with long straps, something that you can hold close to your hips.
If in doubt, remember it’s all about balance. ‘Your handbag should make your figure appear balanced. It should hide what you may want to hide and emphasize what you may want to emphasize,’ says Susan.
